Visiting volunteer week, accommodation provided at Arakoon House (and possibly other nearby locations.)
Smoky Beach Meet at the Beach access track in the Smoky Rest campground at 8.45. We will mainly be working north from the beach access track on Bitou Bush regrowth, Beach Primrose along the foredunes and possibly Crofton Weed and lantana near the creek and waterfall. Tuesday 28th May.
Boyters Lane Bird Hide – top gate (possible early finish if people want). Meeting at the vehicle access gate just at the beginning of Boyters lane (the trailer will be there). However, as there is very limited parking here it is best if people park across the road, on South West Rocks road, in the big grassy area which borders Spencers Creek and meet us at the trailer. The main weeds will be Coastal morning Glory, Brazilian Nightshade plus a few other scattered weeds. Morning tea at 11.00 and finish at 1.00PM. It is a pretty big week, so if you want to finish early, or have the day off Tuesday might be the best day. However, if you would like to continue to 1.00 Wednesday 29th May.
Hat Head. We will be meeting up at 9.00 in Hat Head with some of the Hat Head Dune Care group to lend a hand with some serious weed infestations they have there. We will provide the location where we will meet and work by Monday. Thursday 30 May.
Quarry In lieu of weeding at North Smoky on Thursday, due to National Parks spraying programme, we will now be heading to the eastern end of the Quarry on New Enrance Rd. best to park in Quarry St near Sirius Close. Friday 31st May Mother of Millions at Front beach. For our last day we plan to go to the site of the old Fisherman’s hut, on Main Beach at Trail Bay, where there had been huge infestation of MoMs. Terry and others have done a great job over the years controlling them. However, the recent rains have triggered another flush of new plants. To get there we will meet at 8.45 at the access gate near the German Bridge on Phillip Drive. It is a relatively easy walk from where you are staying or you can drive and park near the gate (leaving access for the gate). From the gate we will walk approx 800m to the site where we will be working. Contact Alan for more details 0419012640
